Kawartha Critter Sauce

FireHouse Gourmet comes to the rescue with this championship barbecue sauce guaranteed to make all your grilled critters come out tasting like winners.  Great on beef, bison, pork, chicken, turkey, game meats, as well as in hamburger patties, meatloaf, grilled chicken quesadillas, nachos on the barbecue, tossed with meatballs, and used as a dipping sauce for fries and chicken nuggets.  So many uses, so little summer!


Muddy’s Pit BBQ Sauce
Good all-around Kansas City style sauce with tomato thickness and just enough tang to cut through rich pulled pork.  Nice consistency for basting ribs.  It has a herb undertone that brings out the best in pork & chicken and since it’s not spicy it qualifies as a family favourite for all palates.  Plus, it’s locally made in Keene by Neil Lorenzen.  Even the bottles are made in Toronto. 

Rufus Teague Sauce & Rub
All three of these sauces have a sweet base and terrific flavour.  The thickness leaves a stickiness that is finger-lickin’ fun!  Honey Sweet is a perfect glaze for chicken drumsticks and Touch o’ Heat adds a slight kick to ribs.  Blazing Hot kicks it up a notch.  Regular and Spicy Meat Rub are tasty, too, and MSG free.


Bone Suckin’ Sauce
Always a mainstay, Bone Suckin’ Regular & Hot grace not only our ribs and pulled pork, but regularly our crock pot meatballs.  We use Bone Suckin’ Mustard slathered on pork shoulder and ribs to help the rub stick.

Firehouse Gourmet is one of those rare retail gems, the kind of place to go for the person that is so hard to shop for.  The owners are knowledgeable and friendly.  For a sauce dude like me I can’t beat the BBQ assortment, or the amazing imported cheese and fun tasty treats.  It is definitely worth the trip to Peterborough’s, East City for a visit to Firehouse Gourmet.
